Pop Culture Primer 2.3.25
Let’s recap the Grammys!
It was a big weekend in my house, and I’m not talking about the Duke-Carolina showdown. I’m talking about the Grammy Awards, of course. This past year has been absolutely insane for the pop girlies (Billie, Sabrina, Taylor, Chappell, Charlie, etc.), and we have been fed an amazing diet of delicious pop music. Not to mention some incredible drops by Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, and Teddy Swims, to say the least. When the best are competing, we all win.
I wasn’t really sure how to summarize everything that went on last night, so let’s go through a quick and dirty list.
Kanye West and his wife, Bianca Censori, showed up uninvited to the show, caused a ruckus, and were escorted out.
Taylor Swift showed up in a short red dress and a body chain with the letter “T” on her thigh. Delicious!
Beyoncé appeared to be in shock when she won “Best Country Album” for “Cowboy Carter,” and Blue Ivy had to urge her to get up on stage, reminding us that no matter how famous you are, your kids will always find a reason to be embarrassed by you.
Chappell Roan performed “Pink Pony Club” AND used her speech for “Best New Artist” to champion artists’ rights and call out record labels for not providing insurance. We love to see it!
Sabrina Carpenter put on a sultry little show show and also won two Grammys for “Best Pop Solo Album” and “Best Pop Solo Performance.”
Taylor Swift and Cynthia Erivo hammed it up together and even recreated the “holding space for the lyrics of Defying Gravity” meme.
Charlie XCX tore it up with her medley of some of the highlights from her “brat” album.
Both Taylor Swift and Billie Eilish left empty-handed, despite multiple nominations each.
Kendrick Lamar got everyone to call Drake a pedophile on live TV when he sang his diss-track, “They Not Like Us.” He also won “Album of the Year” and “Song of the Year.”
Shakira’s boys were just the cutest as they watched their mom win the “Best Latin Pop Album” Grammy.
Lady Gaga dropped the music video for her new song “Abracadabra,” and can I just say YES, MOTHER IS BACK with the crazy hand choreography and the slightly sacrilegious themes!!!
The Weeknd came back and performed after boycotting the awards show for years.
Harry Styles wasn’t there, so I guess we got Benson Boone standing in for the white guy in a cunty little jumpsuit.
Beyoncé finally won her first “Album of the Year” award. It was a long time coming.
